How it started

Heart rat creations was born from the lack of suitable toys and accessories for rats available in most pet shops, and the deep frustration at the items they did sell which were dangerous or unsuitable.
I knew that I could do better and I became determined to do just that!

I spent months researching and listening to other rat owners on what they wanted as well, finding out the common problems and the things that their rats liked best.

I combined all this knowledge and created my own range of toys and accessories which were then tested thoroughly by my friends rats to complete the design process.

As my friends welcomed other pets into their lives my range has expanded to include toys for them as well, I did not want anyone to be left out!

Heart Rat Creations prides itself on helping to reduce, reuse and recycle for a healthier planet.

I begin by reducing the amount of waste that goes to landfil.
80% of the fabric used is sourced from waste off cuts and damaged material which would normally be thrown away.
I work hard to support local chairites as well by paying them to collect jeans with broken zips, missing buttons, rips etc that are not fit for sale but are perfect to be upcycled into my items.

All the printer ink cartridges are recycled refilled cartridges drastically cutting down on the amount of non recyclable plastic sent to landfill.

Paper and card business waste is composted right here in the garden.
Once fully broken down the resulting compost is used to grow the willow and apple trees to make my wooden toys and chews.

Finally all the electric used to power Heart Rat Creations is 100% certified UK renewable offshore wind power, and this website helps the planet as our host plants two trees every month to offset the emisions the power needed to run and use it creates.
